Estimated read time 3 min read

Let’s say that you’ve taken a should you file bankruptcy quiz, you’ve decided on Chapter 7 bankruptcy, and wonder what documents are needed to file.

I saw a bankruptcy petition recently that had over 70 pages of documents. That’s a lot, but which ones are required? We are going to cover all that and more so let’s get started.

The Required Forms List

Filing bankruptcy consists of a lot of documents, and these documents can be stressful and cumbersome to put together.

As such, I am added a screenshot to Fresh Start Finance’s bankruptcy filing software portal as I appreciate how the product lays out which products you need to file and where you are in the process.

Here’s the documents needed at a minimum. Please note more may be required in certain situations. For example, if your household income is above the state’s median income, you may have to fill out form 122A-2. I also included the links to the forms to make it easier for you to access these documents. Finally, please note all of these have a B in front of the number, but I removed for simplicity.

  1. Voluntary Petition
  2. 122A-1
  3. 106A/B
  4. 106C
  5. 106D
  6. 106E/F
  7. 106G
  8. 106H
  9. 106I
  10. 106J
  11. 106Summary
  12. 106Declaration
  13. 107
  14. 108

The Required Documents List

Here are 8 documents that you may need to provide when you file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, but certain districts might not require that you file them with your petition.

  1. Tax returns for the past two years.
  2. Current pay stubs and proof of income from all sources for the past six months
  3. Recent credit card bills, loan statements, and any other evidence of the debts you owe
  4. Statements for your checking account, savings accounts, retirement accounts, stock accounts, and all other financial accounts that you have an interest in at the time of filing
  5. Titles and/or registrations for all motor vehicles titled in your name alone or with another person
  6. Current household expenses include utility bills, lease payments, rent, etc.
  7. Real estate appraisals and deeds to property
  8. Any other documents that relate to your income, expenses, debts, and assets

Conclusion

As you can see, you have to generally file bankruptcy with a lot of documents. To help with your process, you can use an attorney who may fill out the forms for you or you can use a bankruptcy filing software or do something else.

Regardless, I hope this article was helpful to understand which documents you need to file.
