Whether you have younger or older kids, it’s important for your marriage to get some time together as a couple to connect. But, let’s face it…date nights can be expensive (especially if you have to pay a babysitter on top of dinner!).
Here are some tips to help you save money on date night:
- Stay home for a romantic evening. If you have younger kids and just don’t have money for a babysitter, put the kids to bed early and plan a special evening for just the two of you. You can pick up dinner from a restaurant and bring it home or create a special dinner at home complete with candlesticks on the table.
- Trade babysitting with another family. If you are friends with another couple with kids, arrange with them to trade babysitting. For example, you would stay home and watch their kids one night each month, and they would do the same for you. You could do it as little or as much as works for both of you.
- Go to a Movie and then Dinner. Go to the movie first to get matinee pricing and then go out for dinner. I don’t like trying to rush through dinner to make sure we get to the movies on time anyway.
- Go out for Lunch. My husband will have a lunch date while the boys are in school. We don’t have to worry about a sitter, and we can eat off the lunch menu which is typically cheaper.
- Pack some food in a cooler and plan a picnic. Rather than going out to a restaurant, pack some food and drinks in a cooler and enjoy a leisurely picnic at the park. Don’t forget the bug spray!
- Use coupons and Groupons. Check for restaurant coupons before you go out to eat. Or, you can check Groupon for some fun restaurant and event deals.
